Tuesday December 1st 2015

Emma got to spend her time outside with all the little husky puppies today. At first she was a little confused about them, and stayed her distance while all the other dogs expressed their interest in them. She made her way to the far yard and started her daily check of the yard. After making sure everything was in order, she began to be curious about the puppies. She started to follow Zephyr, one of the black pups around, watching him pick up sticks and lay in the grass. Mojo was doing the same thing and went up to Emma, ready to try and play. Emma bounced around in front of Mojo, but the two of them never got into a real game. At the end of group time, it was just Emma and one of the pups outside, and Emma waited and made sure that I brought the puppy in before she herself went inside. What a caring cutie.

Maya and Bennie really hit it off in the yard today! After everyone settled into the yard, and found something to do, Maya and Bennie were non-stop playing the whole time. They did take quick breaks from each other at times, but always made their way back, jumping at each other, ready to start again. Finnigan sometimes joined in on the fun too. The other two were happy for him to join in, as everyone loves playing with Finnigan. Finn made his own friend in the yard today when he wasn't playing with Maya and Bennie. Finn and Brokk were playing really well together for a while. Finn jumped on Brokk, and Brokk laid on the ground, the two of them still playing. Once Brokk got up, the roles would reverse and Brokk jumped on top of Finn. After a while though, these two grew rather tired of each other. Finn went back to playing with Maya and Bennie, who were still wrestling around in the yard. Whenever they took a break from each other, Bennie went to see what was going on near the rocks and Maya sniffed all the holes in the yard, seeing if any toys had been uncovered there. They continued their fun in the playroom, where they could warm up and have a nice drink of water.

Miko is such a silly guy. He always insists on being the last one to come inside. Whenever Miko gets in the mood to stay out longer, he gets to enjoy the yard to himself, while he can look at the other dogs in the yard next to him. Today while his group was still out, he met up with his good friend Pearl. He and Pearl always have so much fun, but today Pearl was in the mood more for a relaxed day. This didn't stop Miko from his pursuit to play with Pearl. He desperately wanted to play, and all the other dogs already partnered up! He barked at her and asked her to play, but she kindly denied. He tried again, jumping in front of her and batting his paw at her feet, enticing her to play, but Pearl still wasn't interested. Poor Miko tried a final time, but Pearl was just too curious about the fence, so he gave up and joined Maya and Bennie. Pearl was super interested in the fence today. Normally she takes a look at everything and then moves on but today she was fixated on the fence. I wonder what she could smell. Lola was her usual, kind self today. She nudged my hand numerous times to get me to pet her, and then made some little noises, letting me know she likes her ears and back rubbed. She's so cute.

Max was such a good boy today! He is getting so much better in his kennel and is getting more patient about waiting to go outside. He sits really nicely in his kennel, and is starting to figure out that the door doesn't open until he sits quietly and waits. He did it so many times today without me telling him. Once he got out of his kennel, he bounded out the door, looking every different way, seeing who was accompanying him today. Charlotte, Zoe and Boris were all outside, and Max couldn't wait to play with them. These three were already playing together, but Max figured they wouldn't mind if he joined in. He came at them at full speed, and they all dispersed. It was so funny to watch Max turn back around, puzzled as to why they moved. Boris was happy to wrestle around with Max for a while. Boris was jumping all over Max, climbing on his back. Eventually, Boris started to slow down, but Max was still ready to go. Max took to racing around the yard, while Boris wanted to spend some time with his mum. Tasha was wandering the yard for most of the time, weaving between the agility yard and the main yard. Charlotte and Zoe were on the play structure and Tasha went over to join. The other girls were taking up all the room inside the playstructure, so she stayed outside, looking at them inside. She wandered until Boris came to her, asking to wrestle, and Tasha isn't one to turn down playing with Boris. It is her favorite thing to do! On their walk today, they walked perfectly together, but at the very end, Tasha decided that they had to play right that second. Boris was of course down to play, but Bennie, who was with them on their walk, wanted to continue walking. After straightening out everyone, and telling them that it is time to walk not play, they walked perfectly, all the way back to the kennel.

Whisper is such a chill girl in the yard. Her big coat keeps her really warm on cold days like this, so she didn't want to come inside. She stuck to her usual routine of wandering the yards. She isn't much for playing with the other dogs, but she loves having their company in the yard. She will often stand near me and watch the dogs run around, or wander. The odd time she does get really amped up and bounce around the yard, with her mouth open, almost like she is smiling. By the time everyone else was ready to come inside, I had to venture to the far side of the agility yard to get Whisper and bring her in.

Sophie and Charlotte both had another really good day. Sophie walked with her good friend Roxy again this morning. These two ladies are growing rather close, and love being together. Charlotte was joined by one of our staff dogs, Brenyn. These two girls walked side by side perfectly, occasionally stopping to sniff the long grass or to watch someone come down the driveway. At group time, Charlotte was super excited to get outside. She ran straight for the play structure and hid underneath, waiting for her friends to come and find her.  Zoe was the first one to join her, and then Tasha and Boris made their way there too. Zoe went underneath with Charlotte. For a while, these two twins didn't come out! Once Max came outside, the girls came out to play with him. Both Zoe and Charlotte were playing with Max, fighting for his attention. Charlotte went back to the playstructure and let Zoe play with Max. Sophie was in a very loving mood today. She wasn't a fan of the cold weather and made sure to stay extra close to me, clinging to my leg. When she nudges my hand, I know that she wants me to bend down and say hi to her. I pet her head and rubbed behind her ears. .

Mocha loves picking a spot in the yard to relax and watch all the youngsters. The spot she picked today was by the Presidential hallway door. She sat on the ground, taking in the scenery and watching the dogs. Issy stayed with her for a while, but eventually drifted off to do her own thing. She emerged into the agility yard when the rest of us were in there. She sniffed around the tunnel and then returned to the main yard when all the other dogs did. Issy spent some time following Percy today. Percy was super excited, as ususal. While Issy was sniffing the tunnel, Percy was racing back and forth inside it, and every time he went by, Issy would lift up her head and look at either end of the tunnel, wondering who was doing that. Percy never left the tunnel, so Issy didn't find out who it was. He only came out when it was getting near time to go back inside. Percy raced inside, but didn't want to join everyone in the playroom. He wanted to return to his kennel and snuggle in a blanket and drift off for a nice nap. The girls followed his example, and returned to the cozy kitchen and awaited a treat at lunch time.

Cats

Daisy was a little more adventurous in the cat room today than Kafka was. When it was Kafka's turn to take over the cat room, she stayed in her condo, snuggled on a fleecy red blanket. I rubbed the top of her head which she seemed to like because she started purring. I let her sleep there for a while before returning to let her out of her condo later. Daisy was let out in the cat room when I went in there to join her but I found her taking a cat nap on her comfy pink blanket. I lifted her out of the condo and she didn't mind. She liked being cuddled. I teased her a bit with the string toy and waved in front of her. She batted at it a few times and then stared at it. She grew tired of it after a few more waves of it and then move on to stare out the window.
