Delilah had another great day here at Tails and Trails. She started it off with a walk with our husky, Justice. The two of them always get along great so it was a perfect match. As soon as I came near her kennel with a leash she got very excited and started doing a little bum wiggle. Once she was out it was off to the races as her and Justice tried to get ahead of one another. She settled for staying beside him but was still at the end of her leash trying to go as fast as possible. Then all of a sudden she decided she wanted to go back inside and couldn't be persuaded otherwise. So I decided to take her on a different route and she was perfectly fine again. At the end of her walk she was very excited to go back in her kennel and cuddle up in her comforter. During her outdoor group time she met a few new friends whom she enjoyed sniffing but didn't seem to want to play with them. I tried to get her to play with a few toys for which she was interested in for a little while but eventually she decided it was time for another nap and wanted to go back inside. It must have been a good day for cuddles and sleeping in her mind.
Nanook was so playful today! He seemed to be in an excellent mood right from the beginning when he was jumping up at his kennel door to get outside and play with all of his friends. He was especially excited when it came time for his walk. Once he got out of his kennel he raced outside with one of his pals and kept the energy up for the rest of his walk. He spent most of his time sniffing in the long grass while trying to find anything he could chase after or play with. By the end of his walk he was pretty exhausted and had a long nap until it was time for his outdoor play group. When it came time for that he bounced up right away as if he was never sleeping and trotted outside. Once outside he did a few laps around the yard with his friends and made sure to sniff everyone he passed before finding a purple ball to play with. For the rest of the group I was involved in a very long game of fetch with him. No matter how many times I'd pick up the ball to throw it, he was always just as excited to race after it and bring it back.
Barney was full of energy today. He began his day with a one of one walk with one of our workers, Kaden. Barney was absolutely ecstatic to meet someone new and kept running around him. During his walk Barney was all over the place! He'd spend some time next to Kaden then sprint off to the end of his leash and constantly be weaving side to side, following whichever smell he was onto. I'm not sure what he was sniffing for but he seemed to be pretty persistent with it. Once it came to his outdoor play group, Barney was just as excited to get outside as for his walk. He raced out the door and ran around the yard until he passed by one of our big rocks and decided he just had to jump up on it. He ended up staying there for almost the whole group time. I think he enjoyed getting to watch everyone in the yard from a higher point of view. Barney also became friends with a dog that had just been added to the group this morning named Kouza. He ended up following her around whenever he wasn't sitting on his beloved rock.
Winston began his morning in a very big small dog group, filled with all of his friends. When I went to put him outside he showed me a huge yawn followed by of course an even bigger stretch as if he wanted 5 more minutes of sleep. With a bit of convincing he finally trotted outside, immediately went to the washroom then wanted to go back into his warm kennel and snuggle up.. I think it may have been a little too chilly for him this morning. He's in for a shock when the snow comes! For the rest of the day he had more energy. He was up and ready when it came time for his morning walk and was happy to get a shorter one on one walk. By the end of it he was ready for another long nap. During his outdoor play group, he looked quite happy to be outside and went into the yard to say hello to everyone while giving them a quick sniff. Then he found a comfy spot to sit and watched everyone in his group for the remainder of the time. Towards the end of his group time, he and I had a very nice cuddle in the middle of the yard. He was definitely in the mood for a back scratch as he was continuously wiggling his bum when I gave him one.
Kouza had a great first day back here at Tails and Trails. She didn't quite make it here in time for her morning walk but she was just in time to go out with her outdoor play group. She knew she had so many new friends to meet so she immediately went around the yard trying to remember where everything was and sniffed whoever she passed. She ended up getting along great with another small dog named Barney. He loved following her around the yard while sniffing her all over and she seemed to enjoy the attention. Just like always, if I wasn't paying enough attention to her she would follow me around and bark at me until I did. Funny little girl. I ended up giving her a little back and belly rub which she seemed to love and was very content by the end of her group time.
