Nanook was so happy on his walk with Maya and Mac, as the two of them played he trotted behind with his mouth wide open and his tongue hanging out. Outside in the yard he kept to himself mostly, only interacting with the dogs a little bit to smell them and to say hello. He wasn’t much of a player and was focusing more on exploring around in the snow. He did really like the snow though because when I turned around he was rolling around in it on his back, he did it for so long that he got all the dogs attention and they ran over to watch.
Cooper and Xiao Bao ran over to watch Nanook rolling on the ground, they were so entertained by it that they eventually started barking. Maybe they didn’t see the fun in rolling in the snow like he did. Cooper was just full of energy all day today, and went straight outside to let it all out. He was running around all the dogs, even me at one point, trying to find someone to play with. But he didn’t have to look far because little Xiao Bao was there to take the role of his play mate. Xiao Bao might be small but he’s sure tough when it comes to playing with other dogs. Cooper chased Xiao all over the yard until they were out of breath and started to wander away from each other. Xiao bao looked absolutely adorable in his parka and sweatpants, he sure was dressed for the snow today and stayed warm. He liked to come up to say hello by surprising me and jumping up on my legs behind me to pick him up.
Cricket liked to sniff every dog that was outside to get to know them a little better. Gladly no one minded this little girl chasing after them for a sniff because it made her happy. She was chasing Will around the yard for a little bit today, Will didn’t like it so much because he would speed up top try and get away from her but whenever she caught up to him he would turn around and give her a look that read, “leave me alone!”. Will was happy just wandering around on his own; he liked to explore and to do it at his own pace, away from the other dogs. Cricket left and started to bury her face in the snow after watching Nanook do it. She would cover her head completely and when she lifted up her head her beard was all white from it!
Kouza had a very nice and relaxing day today. She was seeming really sleepy this morning until I took her out for her walk then after that she woke right up! On her walk she stayed behind me as the other two dogs were trying to race as far as the leash would let them go ahead of me. Kouza wasn’t about that and liked to take her time and enjoy it outside instead of rushing through her walk. During groups I brought some treats out and she sat nicely for me, then lay down, and even gave some kisses before I gave her a treat. She’s such a good girl.
Jax was such a happy guy today when he was outside with me and his group. Right as we all went in the agility yard he was jumping up on me trying to get me to play. I was trying to get some of the others involved with him but no one was interested right then. So I took it upon myself and started running around in circles and teasing him as he chased me. It wasn’t much of a game of tag though since he’s way faster and always caught up really quickly, even if I was on the other side of the yard he could do it. Finally Rex started to be interested and took over my place. They started out by Rex jumping up on Jax and then vice versa. Rex wasn’t taking any of it and started to chase Jax into the other yard full speed. He quickly got tired though and needed a nice break so he did what all the dogs were doing today... lay down in the snow and started to roll around, at first just his head but that didn’t last long before he was covered in snow.
Poppy was playful as well today. She’s a lot more independent though, especially today. I didn’t see her playing with any dogs but ran around on her own. She was doing laps around the yard letting out all the energy she had stuck inside of him before settling down. As soon as Jax and Rex started to play tag that’s where all of Poppy’s attention went. She was standing watching from a distance but she couldn’t take it any longer and started to run around them.
Fez had a quiet day today, to my surprise lots of dogs wanted to play with Fez but Fez wasn’t so into it. At least he’s happy doing his own thing outside and still interacted with everyone. He liked to go up and touch his nose against them to say hi and greet them. I kept on calling him over to give him lots of cuddles and attention. He spent lunch time in the playroom with Rex and they absolutely adored each other. Every command that we were asking Rex to do Fez would do on his own and copy it. He did it the whole time we were doing enhanced. They both love to be around each other and were cuddling up next to each other the entire time they were in there. Rex was being so sweet to Fez and giving him lots of kisses as Fez was laying down.
Viggo was very independent when he was outside today. He stayed to himself other than when I called him over to me for some attention. He loved when I scratched his head and gave him kisses before he took off again to wander around. Even though he wasn’t in much of a mood to play today I did get him to follow me over to the agility tunnel where I got him to go through. He was spending so much time sniffing around it that I though he might as well go inside of it, and he did. I was very proud... and surprised he fit.
Beanie and Poochio began their morning on a chilly but relaxing
walk around the field. When I first went in to get them, they were both all
cuddled up but quickly bounced up and were soon bouncing at their kennel to go
out. On their actual walk they became very calm and simply enjoyed the fresh
air while roaming around the field. Beanie spent most of her time right beside
me, looking up at me to pet her. Poochio on the other hand was quite the little
explorer. Every time he would pass a patch of grass among the snow, he would
have to stop and sniff it thoroughly before we could continue on our walk. I think
their jackets kept them pretty warm because they weren’t very anxious to get
back inside once the walk was over. However they still enjoyed going back inside
and cuddling with one another until it came time for their outdoor play group.
During their outdoor play group, Beanie mostly kept to herself but enjoyed
following me or Poochio around just to see what everyone was doing. She was
very interested in sniffing anyone who passed her but wasn’t quite in the mood
to play with anyone. Poochio was a bit more active and playful but he mostly
wanted to bark at everyone whenever someone was playing. Eventually I got a big
rope toy that he and the others loved to grab and pull at. Poochio kept
bouncing up to try to get a good grip on the rope but he always seemed to miss
it and have to start all over again.
Duncan was very happy to see the snow today! When I took him
outside this morning, it was as if he already knew that it had snowed
overnight. He was so ecstatic to get outside that he almost ran me over trying
to get to the door. Once I got him to slow down a little bit, we went outside
and immediately he sniffed out a good spot and began to roll around. During his walk he had also found a
few good spots to roll around in. By the end, he had little bits of snow all
over himself. In the late morning he was just as excited to get outside and
play in the snow. We jogged outside and he was immediately on the ground once
again. I tried to get him to play with a few of his toys as well but of course there
was no point since he loved rolling around so much.
Maya and Rocky’s day was filled with fun for the both of
them. They began their mornings on different walks which was best since Maya
could play and go faster while Rocky took it a bit easier. Maya adored her
friends that she was walking with, which led to her bouncing all over the
place. As soon as we got outside she began racing back and forth and getting
all of the leads tangled up, what a funny girl. Of course she wasn’t alone in
this act as her two other friends were just as excited and energetic as her
this morning. Rocky’s walk was much calmer as he walked with two older dogs. He
was able to enjoy the crisp morning air without having to dodge the bounciness
of Maya. Rocky ended up being quite the explorer on his walk and always seemed
to be off somewhere sniffing in the snow. During their outdoor playtime, Maya’s
energy was once again completely restored as she raced around the yard with her
best friends. She was like a little bullet racing around the yard as no one
could ever catch up to her. Towards the end of the group I got a huge rope toy
that she and her friends could all grab onto and she absolutely loved it.
Eventually I wasn’t even needed because she and her friends played tug-of-war
together. Rocky was a little bit cuddlier today than most days; I think it must
have been the weather. As soon as he got outside, he continued his exploring
around the yard a few times but ended up finding me while I was sat down and petting
other dogs. He sneakily pushed his way past all of them and sat down right on
my lap. He ended up getting a nice
head/neck/back scratch while sitting there that I believe he quite enjoyed.
Maya is doing amazing with her enhanced training. It was as if all of her crazy
energy was focused into completing the task at hand. She did a great job with
her structure walk and even with added distractions she was able to sit down
and stay there without a second thought. Since Rocky was in a cuddlier mood
today, he must’ve loved his extra attention. I brought Maya and Rocky into the
play room for their extra time and it went very well. Maya spent a lot of
her time following Rocky around while trying to get him to play, but he seemed
to just want to lay down and snooze the afternoon away, although he did show
some interest when she brought him a little rope toy. So cute!
Tennya got to spend another day in our cozy kitchen. She
adores staying in the kitchen because she gets to spend so much more time with
everyone. As soon as anyone walks into the kitchen she immediately gets up to
greet them while carrying her blanket in her mouth and wagging her tail. I
spent a good amount of time this morning playing with her and her blanket. Of
course when it was time for her morning walk, so was just as happy to see me as
always. Once we got outside she completely pounced at the snow and began
jumping all over the place; I think she may have been a little excited. I thought
she might have slowed down a little bit once she had played with enough snow
but she was constantly trying to explore more areas of the field. It was so
cute to watch the happiness that came from it. During her outdoor play group
she had calmed down quite a bit and wanted to simply venture around the yard
while stopping to play every so often. I got her hooked on trying to catch
little snow balls with her mouth by jumping up in the air when I tossed them to
her. We ended up playing this new game for a little while until she wanted a
back rub and eventually to go inside and warm up.
Dawson had an awesome first full day back here at Tails & Trails. We started him off this morning on a fast but not overwhelming walk
with one of his old friends Duke. Dawson was very excited to go on his walk but
he was a little nervous getting out as per usual. Duke did a great job of
showing him not to be nervous and persuaded him to come out so that they could
go for their walk. Once we got outside, Dawson was once again as happy as could
be. Duke really kept Dawson on his toes since he was in the mood to go pretty
fast today. Dawson wasn’t at the end of his leash and pulling me by any means
but he did have an extra pep in his step. He spent a good amount of time sniffing
all around him but was still very motivated to continue on at his fast pace. By
the end of their walk, Dawson was ready for a quick nap before their outdoor
play group time rolled around. Luckily for them they ended up in the same group
along with another nice boy name Charly. Charly and Dawson became the bests of
friends within seconds. As soon as they met in the yard they were completely attached
at the hip while racing around it. Charly always seemed to be in the lead but
Dawson was constantly right on his tail pushing him to go faster every lap they
did. Every so often they would stop to play tackle one another but would soon
be off once again. Towards the end of the group time, I had brought out a
tennis ball that Charly fell in complete and utter love with. I raced around the
yard with them hot on my trail trying to get the ball away from me. Charly used
his amazingly high jumping skills in order to jump right up to where I was
holding it and take it from my hand. This led to a full on sprint between him,
Dawson, Duke and a few of their other friends. Charly ended up keeping the ball
for most of the rest of the group; holding it in his mouth to try and show it
off to everyone that passed by.
As mentioned, Duke began his day by being
an awesome role model to one of our more nervous dogs named Dawson this morning.
He seemed to be able to show Dawson that it was okay to come out of the kennel
and share his excitement for his walk. Once he got outside Duke was right to
the end of his leash as he raced forward to try to play in as much snow as
possible. He continued to run from one side to the other side of the trail in
hopes of finding something to sniff/chase. Towards the end of the walk he would
continuously look back at me and walk beside me in order to get as much
attention and love as possible. He wasn’t as playful today in his group but he
still played every so often. The most playful part of his group was towards the
end of it when he was able to catch the tennis ball before anyone else could.
He was absolutely ecstatic to get it and was constantly racing past me and all
his other friends to show it off. When it was time to go inside, he snuggled up
onto his cot and had an afternoon snooze, followed by some cuddles from me for
a little while.
Spencer had another wonderful day today. He started his
morning off walking with Magic once again and was just as head
over heels for her as yesterday. He would constantly try to follow her wherever
she went which lead to a bit of a game situation. They ended up spending their
whole walk chasing after one another which was adorable to say the least.
However, during his group, he seemed a lot less interested in chasing the girls
and more interested in play tackling his guy friends. He had an awesome time
play tackling with his friend Duke for a little while which continued as Duke
ended up getting a tennis ball that Spencer had. Spencer tried to do anything to
get the ball away from him but sadly he didn’t have much luck. Instead, I had
found a rope toy which he and I played with for a long while. He was going
crazy for it; jumping up to try and get it, chasing me and it and around the
yard and playing tug-of-war with me.
Cats
Chief was chilling on the cat tower, he spent his entire day there sleeping away because he loves it so much. I went to pet him and he kept on rolling over to show his tummy. Athena was acting a little shy today and didn’t want to come out of her suite. I gave her some cuddles but then she got a little moody and wanted to be left alone. Guss was spending the day in the top suite, when I walked in he was standing in his litter box looking below watching Tulo running around below playing. I tried to get him to come down but he liked being up there. Shimmer was sleeping in his suite all day today, he didn’t want to come out and barely woke up when I walked in but I did gave him lots of cuddles. Marley was wondering around saying hi to all the cats. He’s so social and loves to cuddle. He loved it when I pet his head and spent the day looking out the window.
