There's always one or two dogs who prefer to snuggle rather than play, and sweet Sophie is one of them. Sophie and I spent a good part of group time hanging out together and watching her little sister, Charlotte, play with some of the other dogs. Sophie is such a cuddly bear! She stuck by my side and kept me cozy with her fluffy coat and her warm, happy gaze. As Sophie and I snuggled, Charlotte was bouncing around with a few of her friends. She, Molly and Zoe, the other two golden retrievers, are like three peas in a pod. They chased each other around the yard, stopping occasionally to toss a toy around or to zip through the tunnel. Charlotte's happy energy was a great match for Finnigan, the doodle puppy, as well. She was patient with him, but just quick and sassy enough to keep him playing. She's a good match for anyone!
I found a purple tennis ball out in the yard and of course Molly was ready to play! She loves her toys, and she pounced around beside me until I threw the ball for her. She could play fetch for days, I swear! Whisper watched as Molly ran after the ball again and again, waiting for her moment to join in. I threw the ball one more time, and Whisper pounced! She chased the ball with her new friend, Molly, and the pair were in a hot pursuit. Once the girls reached the ball, though, they turned right around and started chasing each other. Whisper play-bowed and "woooooed" at Molly, waiting for her to take the bait. Molly jumped (literally) at the opportunity, and the two fluffy friends were zig zagging all around the yard, enjoying their new friendship.
My little buddy, Pippin, was full of beans today. He trotted out into the yard and sniffed around for a few minutes before asking his new friends to play. Pippin was particularly smitten by Emma, and the feeling seemed to be mutual. Pippin wiggled around playfully, placing a gentle paw on Emma's back as if asking her to play. Emma play bowed and spun around, as if she were accepting Pippin's proposal. Emma ran as fast as she could to each corner of the grassy yard, and Pippin was right behind her. The pair stuck together for most of outdoor play time, either sniffing the rocks alongside each other or play bowing and pouncing. Emma usually started their game of chase, and Pippin was happy to tag along each time.
Before taking Max and Sadie down the driveway for their walk, I went to see Max in his kennel. We worked on staying calm, being patient and waiting nicely to exit the kennel. Max gets so very excited, he can't wait to burst out of the kennel and down the hall. Today, though, we took our time and Max was a great listener. He's such a good boy and focuses very well in a one-on-one situation. After our walk, Max and Sadie had the whole playroom to themselves, and boy did they wrestle! They really are the best of friends.
Boris and Tasha had some new friends to play with in their group today. At first Boris and Tasha were more interested in exploring the yard than playing, but it didn't take long before their focus shifted. Tasha was the first to get the others going. She hopped across the yard and stopped right next to Tsavo. They sniffed each other, and once she was satisfied, Tasha hip-checked Tsavo to get let her know she was ready to play. Tsavo looked around for a second, assessing the situation, and then suddenly sprung up onto her hind legs to pounce on Tasha. This caught Boris' attention, and sure enough he zoomed over to see what his mom and her new friend were up to. Tasha whipped around and bumped Boris playfully, inviting him to join the fun. The three dogs wrestled for a few minutes, when yet another friend came to see what was going on. Ginny was intrigued by the bunch, wrestling and chatting to each other, so she play-bowed, pounced, and zoomed around the group to get their attention. What started as only Tasha and Tsavo, was now a group wide game of wrestle, chase and chat. It was really nice to see Tsavo and Ginny playing today! I guess Tasha and Boris brought the party!
We had three generations of huskies in one group today! Grandma Issy kept a watchful eye as her daughter, Tasha, as Tasha played with her son (Issy's grandson), Boris. Issy sniffed around the yard, kicking up the grass as she went. She kept an eye on Tasha and Boris in between visits with her bestie, Mocha. Mocha was convinced that it was raining (although at this point, it was not), and curled up in one of the outdoor kennel runs. I tried to tell her that the rain had long since stopped, but she wasn't buying it. So, I hung out for a few minutes giving Mocha lots of love before going back to check on Issy, Boris, Tasha and friends.
I was very happy to see that my friend Oliver was back at Tails & Trails today, and boy was he happy to be here! Oliver bounced his way across the yard to greet Bentley, who was tossing a tennis ball around for himself. I grabbed the ball and threw it across the yard for the boys to chase. Oliver ran as fast as he could towards the ball, but once he reached it, he nudged it with his nose and left it on the ground. I ran up to Oliver and tried to get him to pick up the ball, but he was too excited! Instead, he play-bowed to Bentley, who bowed right back. The boys took of in a flash, zipping around the grassy part of the yard. A lovely yellow lab named Katie also joined in, and the three musketeers were having a blast bouncing, play-bowing and chasing each other across the yard.
Teddy and Percy are a match made in heaven. Those boys are always ready to run as fast as they can around the yard. If they find a toy along the way, even better! Percy picked up a blue bone shaped toy and did a few more laps around the yard while Teddy and I played with the tennis ball. I threw the ball for Teddy a few times before Percy noticed that we were having fun. Percy joined in, but didn't want to put his bone toy down! Each time that I threw the ball, Teddy and Percy would both chase after it, but Teddy only ever caught it since Percy already had his mouth full! What a silly pair.
Spencer and Cai spent the first part of group time sniffing around in their respective parts of the yard. Spencer found the tunnel very, very interesting, and Cai watched as Spencer went halfway in one end. Cai trotted over to see what was so interesting, and wandered halfway in the other end of the tunnel. It was too funny, Cai's bum was out one end, and Spencer's was out the other. Both boys walked further into the tunnel towards each other and then realized that they would have to either turn around or back out. There was some rustling inside the tunnel, and Spencer's head poked out one end, and Cai's out the other. The tunnel got them both very excited, and Spencer took off and ran along the length of the fence. Cai raced over to see Wally, the bloodhound, and the two started wrestling together. Spencer came and watched for a little while, but wandered back over to the tunnel to do more investigating, saving his energy for fun in the playroom.
